There is a distinct disparity between the relative number of men, over 70, in Belgium and the Netherlands, the disparity being almost twice the number in the latter at 80+.This may possibly be due to their respectively different First War experiences. Data is not provided beyond the 85-89 age group.

The changes in male/female ratios after 60 are almost exponential and may be due to radical changes in male activity when retirement sets in.

The number of women increases more rapidly with age in Czechia, reaching about 2.5 to 1 by age 75, compared with 1-1.5 to 1 elsewhere in this region. Male life expectation is more balanced in Switzerland.

Both Germany and Austria show signs of a greater disproportion in the 75 to 95 age groups (born in 1905 to 1925). These are of the generation which was needed in both wars.
