The area has undergone several emotionally sharp changes. Germany can be seen to have had low points around 1916, 1941-1946, and again during the mid-70s. Austria did not share Germany's upsurge during the mid 30s but had a minor 'lift' around 1946. Otherwise Austria shared the same social reactions, which, since the War, were also closely followed by Switzerland. Czechia had a birth
rate 'surge' around 1946, which waned during the 50s and 60s, and was
followed by another upsurge during the 70s and 80s, a development which
