See how age groups change by 2050

The number of people in each 5 year age group reflects demographic responses to events at the time of birth.

Russia has experienced violent 'mood' changes resulting in a nadir around 1941,followed by a 'high' around 1956. A similar 'up and down' occurred between 1966 and 1986.

Germany, like Russia, was 'on a high' around 1936 but reached its next 'high' around the mid 60s, some 5 years after Russia. This was about the time for the UK and a little before Italy. France does not seem to have a similar experience during the 'flower power' period following the last War. Was that the result of its regulated population policy?

The ratio of females to males invariably shows an increase of women among the older people in all countries. Major differences exist between e.g. Russia and most others included here. At 80 the difference is half as many more than in Germany, and twice as many as in the UK, France or Italy.
