Age groups are shown by times of birth, i.e.1996=0-4 year olds. Mexico has significantly fewer people born before 1950 compared by those born after 1970. |
The % of 'new'Mexicans will have decreased by 1/3, while those older than 50 begin to equal the US population structure. |

Canada and
the US largely retain their younger age profile while Mexico now looks
similar to the US. Mexicos population increase is driven entirely by a
significant increase among the over 50s.

Mexico provides an almost ideal distribution of ages in its population: There is a gradual % decrease in age group members This is due partly to the fact that e.g 50 years ago significantly fewer Mexicans were born. The US has grown rapidly but also benefits from better life expectation. Unlike Mexico, it shared the convulsions of Europe and the subsequent elations after the Second World War, which led to a large increase, lasting from the early 50s to the mid 60s.There was a later, minor, upsurge in the mid 80s.
