Compared with most other regions these countries which reputedly had higher
birth rates than those further north, have declined more rapidly since
the 1970s. The greatest number (>7%) are now between 20 and 50 years
old whereas e.g. in Scandinavia the spread of the greatest number (>7%)
extends over those born between 1940 and 1970 (aged 30 to 60).
