Congratulations
to U3A West bridgford. Their very interesting 8-minute video clip of the
many activities of their U3A group can be seen on Youtube. Music, fitness,
history, poetry, theatre visits, art, yoga, cooking, dancing, politics,
word games, computing, creative writing, walking, something for everyone.
This is strongly recommended
viewing for people hoping to join a local group, but not exactly sure
what sort of things we do. Just click on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkF-kZORqs4&feature=related

An
extract found in the bright yellow curry spice turmeric can kill off cancer
cells, scientists have shown.
The chemical - curcumin
- has long been thought to have healing powers and is already being tested
as a treatment for arthritis and even dementia. Now tests by a team at
the Cork Cancer Research Centre show it can destroy gullet cancer cells
in the lab. For more details click on http://www.ccrc.ie/news-and-awards/140?task=view

TED
is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out
(in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds:
Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever
broader.
Alan Russell studies
regenerative medicine -- a breakthrough way of thinking about disease
and injury, using a process that can signal the body to rebuild itself.
In the fight against
disease, defect and injury, Alan Russell has a novel argument: Why not
engineer new tissue and organs to replace sick ones? Click-on http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/alan_russell_on_regenerating_our_bodies.html

Painting:
John Duffield of Rugby U3A, Warks wrote to say.... "you asked me
to investigate free on-line painting courses, and I have been trawling
the web. Generally there appear to be none that don't require a subscription.
One exception, however, is :
http://www.loydallgallery.co.uk/
which does
offer good instruction in building a watercolour or oil painting. I do
have to confess an interest, since Kim Loydall is an ex-student of mine,
but I can really recommend his free courses to U3A painting groups. I
hope this is useful".
Yes it certainly is,
and thank you.
