Useful tips from Alan Bannister |

Start-up: I have set Firefox to open a number of sites in separate Tabs on start-up. I did this by putting bookmarks in the Start-up bookmark folder and then setting my home page from that folder. All fine, and I am sure many of you do the same. However, recently the URL of one of these sites changed. I modified the bookmark in the Start-up folder but it had no effect on the pages that were opened when I restarted Firefox. Eventually I found that the Start-up folder is not inspected every time you load Firefox. When you set the Homepage option Firefox will copy the current contents of the Start-up folder, but will not automatically update when you modify the contents of that folder. So, whenever you change the start-up folder, go to Options and manually click the Use Bookmark button to refresh the settings. Cache: I noticed that Firefox was not displaying the latest version of web pages that I had previously visited, but was showing the one from my local cache. Unlike IE, I could not find any way of checking the settings. A visit to the on-line support pages of Firefox at http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/ revealed a whole new world of techie bits that I was unaware of. Alan
